Teja is known for his youthful entertainers which changed the trend in Tollywood. The director of late has been reeling under a string of flops. Though he revived his career with Nene Raju Nene Mantri, his recent release Sita failed utterly at the box office.

Teja is often accused of high handed attitude and there are rumors galore that he slaps heroines and other actors in the sets. Clarifying on this, Teja said, “There is no truth in the rumor that I slap heroines and other cast in the sets. This is only a rumor."

Elaborating further he said, “During my early days, all my films turned out to be hits at the box office. So, even tenth class students used to come to act in films. There were few who came with exam fees in their hands and waited for hours in front of my office. Some even wrote letters threatening to commit suicide if I do not give them offers. So I used to complain at the police station. I used to scold few of them and send them away."

Teja continued saying, “To prevent those from neglecting studies and coming to me, I spread a rumor that I will hit in the sets. I thought that with such kind of rumor, youngsters do not come to me scared of getting slapped. This gave the desired result to some extent."

Teja added, "However in one instance, I slapped a heroine. During one scene heroine Anitha Hassanandani was supposed to cry. Generally, for such a scene, we prepare the heroine one day ahead. However, I planned a shot unexpectedly. Despite my repeated requests, heroine told that she is not getting tears. So I told her, 'If you do not do the scene, I will slap you' and really slapped her. At once heroine cried and the scene was shot. Those who saw that in the sets spread rumors that I hit actors in the sets. I felt at least in such way, youngsters stop coming neglecting studies."
