Tollywood is experiencing a peculiar situation and many are wondering whether Telugu filmmakers are silently playing a safe game. Of late though many films got positive talk, none of them shook the box office.
All those films got good positive reviews from the critics and been hailed as the good attempt, novel plot and different take. Nani's Jersey got unanimous positive talk from all quarters but it disappointed with its collections which did not come as expected.
Same is the case with Mallesham, Agent Sai Srinivas Athreya and Brochevarevarura which got positive reviews from the critics. Priyadarshi's Mallesham attracted with emotional content but got branded as a docu drama. Though the film failed to become a commercial hit, inside talk is digital and satellite rights helped it sail through. With the film made in low budget, it may reach the safe zone.
Naveen Polisetty, Swaroop's Agent Sai Srinivas Athreya got positive reviews and celebrities appreciation helped it a lot. Sree Vishnu-Nivetha Thomas' Brochevarevarura got positive talk from the critics and it is in the profit zone. But Rajeskhar's Kalki is finding it difficult as its budget crossed Rs 20crs. Samantha's Oh Baby is getting good response and one has to wait and watch to know its collections in the full run.
Now talk is on that films with novel content may win the appreciation of the movie lovers but it is difficult for the makers to make people to come to the theatres. Film industry is getting affected with Amazon, Netflix and other digital media apart from piracy threat.
