Vajpayee's Last Rites Performed

Former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee's last rites were performed with all the state honours this evening at Smrithi Sthal on the banks of river Yamuna in New Delhi. His funeral pyre was lit by his adopted daughter Namitha Kaul Bhattacharya and the gun salute was offered by the police. 

Earlier this morning, Vajpayee's body was brought from his home to BJP headquarters wherein huge number of political leaders thronged to pay rich tributes to the stalwart politician of India. 

The PM Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit shah followed the coffin of Vajpayee to Smrithi Sthal. On the other hand, Bhutan's king Jigme Khesar, the foreign ministers of Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan attended the cremation ceremony of iconic poet and politician. 

It is a known news that Vajpayee breathed his last on Thursday, 16th of August owing to kidney ailment issues. The union government declared seven days  mourning across the country.
