Mahesh Babu As Lord Ram In SS Rajamouli's Varanasi Goes Viral

A new image of Mahesh Babu as Lord Ram from SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi is trending online. Dressed in saffron robes with a bow, the rural-setup photo sparked huge buzz. Fans aren’t sure if it’s AI or leaked, but excitement for his Ramayana avatar is massive.
The buzz grew after Rajamouli’s France promotions. He earlier said seeing Mahesh as Ram gave him “literal goosebumps” and called him a mix of Krishna’s charm and Rama’s calm. Another viral poster shows Mahesh with a trishul, reshared widely during fan meets last year.
Rajamouli confirmed Varanasi features a 20-30 minute Ramayana sequence filmed in IMAX. The epic standalone film stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Social media calls the visuals “cinematic and divine,” comparing the scale to Baahubali with mythological grandeur.
Production is ongoing with about 80 shooting days left before post production begins. The makers teased Mahesh’s look in the first teaser, but this viral image fueled more speculation. Varanasi is slated for April 2027 and is already one of India’s most anticipated mythological epics.
