Suriya, Sudha Kongara Film Put On The Back Burner

Suriya's latest is a sci-fi epic action film, ‘Kanguva’. Helmed by Siva, it features Suriya in a dual role along with Disha Patani and Bobby Deol in key supporting roles. The actor has already wrapped up his shooting part and is supposed to join hands with Sudha Kongara for the second time. An announcement regarding the film titled, 'Puranaanooru' was also made in 2023. 

The biggie, being referred to as ‘Suriya 43’, garnered attention with its star-studded cast that included Nazriya Nazim and Dulquer Salmaan. It, however, is yet to take off. In March 18, Suriya issued a statement about the delays and assured his followers that ‘Puranaanooru’ has not been shelved. 

'Puranaanooru’ is a landmark film for GV Prakash Kumar as it marks his 100th movie as a music composer.It is  jointly produced by 2D Entertainment and Meenakshi Cinemas. Puranaanooru also marks Bollywood actor Vijay Varma’s Tamil debut. The film was supposed to be based on real events about anti Hindi movement happened in Tamil Nadu. 

However, it seems that this project has been put on the back burner due to budget issues and creative differences between the actor and filmmaker. The duo’s first collaboration, Soorarai Pottru / Aakashame Nee Haddura emerged as a blockbuster on Prime Video, and also won National Awards. The buzz around their reunion was high. Unfortunately, the film is not happening, and Suriya‘s next will be helmed by Karthik Subbaraj.
