The three-day Mahanadu of the Telugu Desam Party got off to a colourful start on Thursday with party chief  Nara Chandrababu Naidu lambasting the ruling Congress at every available opportunity.

In his inaugural address, the Tdp supremo launched a scathing attack on the Congress Government. He alleged that the unbridled corrupt practices are being executed by Rosaiah and his Cabinet colleagues. Instead of taking up the welfare schemes, the Congress leaders are more concerned with filling their personal coffers.

``We lost the elections by a margin of one percent in 2009 because small, non-serious parties without clear vision contested the polls and ruined our chances,’’ Chandrababu lamented.

``We will concentrate on the people’s problems, we are not worried about mid-term polls or power. Whether we rule or sit in the Opposition, we should work for the people's welfare,’’ he observed.

Chandrababu ridiculed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s statement that he would  make way for Rahul Gandhi if Rahul shows an inclination to rule the country. It is sad that a person of Mamnmohan Singh's stature should make such a statement, he felt.

``Tdp is a regional party but it has played a vital role in the national politics,'' Chandrababu  remarked.

Holding the Governemnt responsible for the present financial mess, Chandrababu noted, ``the Congress Government in the name of welfare schemes and irrigation projects has filled the coffers of the ministers and finally pushed the state to the brink of bankruptcy.’’

At least for now, the Congress should wake up from slumber and work for the welfare of the people, lest they will teach them a lesson.Earlier, Chandrababu hoisted the party flag to mark the inauguration of the three-day Mahanadu at Gandipet.
