Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Thursday directed the District Collectors to take relief and rescue operations in the four districts, which were affected by untimely rains in the state.

 Convening a tele-conference with the District Collectors from here, the Chief Minister, who is on a visit to national capital to participate in a meeting of the Planning Commission, asked the Collectors to take necessary measures to help the farmers in rain-hit districts. Ropsaih asked the Collectors to estimate the losses to the crop and take relief operations.

 He also directed the Principal Secretary to coordinate with the District Collectors in the relief and rescue operations. The unseasonal rains accompanied by hailstorms caused extensive damage to agriculture crops and orchards in Anantapur, Kadapa, Chittoor and Kurnool districts.

 Four persons hailing from Prakasam and Guntur districts were killed in Kadapa and one woman died in Chittoor district. According to agriculture officials, standing crops in 1500 acres were washed away in the rains.
