Former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik on Wednesday divorced his wife Ayesha Siddiqui, ahead of his planned marriage to Indian tennis player Sania Mirza.

Shams Babar, a friend of the Siddiqui family, said Malik had acknowledged his marriage to Ayesha despite vehement denials before media persons in the past couple of days.

According to Ayesha’s family circles, both Shoaib and Ayesha have signed the divorce papers on Wednesday.

The compromise was arrived at through the mediation of six close family friends including the Pakistan Minority Affairs Minister Khalid Rasood Khan. The truce was reached late on Tuesday night at Imran Mirza’s house.

On her part Ayesha Sidiqqui has agreed to take back all civil and criminal cases she had filed against the Pakistani cricketer. Ayesha's demand for a public apology has also been withdrawn.

One of the mediators of the deal, Captain Ikram Kalim told media ``since the name of the community was being maligned, it was decided that Shoaib Malik would sign the divorce papers to put an end to all the mudslinging. ‘’

On being asked about the allegations – marriage, abortion, sharing hotel rooms – as claimed by Ayesha, Kalim said, “These are things of the past. All issues have been sorted out in an amicable manner.”
