Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi on Friday expressed concern over the tardy pace of irrigation works taken up under the Jalayagnam scheme.
Talking to reporters after writing to Chief Minister K Rosaiah over the slow progress of works in irrigation projects, he urged the government to take steps to complete the projects in a time-bound manner.
Chiranjeevi said the slowdown in payment has hit the progress of works and at some places the contractors are reported to have stopped works. In his letter, Chiranjeevi appealed to the Government to pay the pending bills of contractors immediately to complete the projects on time.
Regretting the stalling of Polavarm project works on Godavari River in West Godavari district, the PRP leader urged the Government to make efforts to settle the disputes with neighbouring states and secure ‘national status’ for the project so that the state can get more funds.
He also urged the government to mount pressure on the Centre to accord national project status to the Pranahita-Chevella project, to be constructed in Telangana region.
