The Telugu Desam and Left parties on Tuesday insisted on taking up a discussion in the Assembly on Chimakurthy mudslide, which claimed 13 lives so far.

Blaming the quarry firm, Hamsa Minerals and Exports Ltd Management, for the mishap and for violation of safety norms, the Telugu Desam demanded payment of Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the victims.

Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar did not allow the discussion on the mudslide as the Government is contemplating an announcement on the issue on Wednesday.

However, the Tdp and Left parties stuck to their guns and stalled the proceedings in the House seeking a discussion on the issue.

Intervening in the issue, Chief Minister K Rosaiah said the Government would pay more than Rs 10,000 which is higher than the amount paid as compensation during the Tdp regime for such mishap victims.

He said the state government had announced an ex gratia of Rs 6 lakh to each victim’s family.

The Tdp objected to such comments and stalled the proceedings in the House.

The Deputy Speaker said the Tdp members were not interested to continue the House business and adjourned the House till Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the death toll in Chimakurthy mishap rose to 13 with another body being retrieved from the debris.
