Cops molested girl students, MPs write to Sonia

Alleging that the police personnel molested some inmates of the girls’ hostels in the Osmania University, Congress MPs from Telangana region on Thursday dashed off a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi requesting her to take action against those involved.

The MPs drafted the letter at a meeting in Andhra Bhavan here to highlight the police excesses against the students of Osmania and Kakatiya universities.

MPs Madhu Yaskhi and G Vivekanand told newsmen that "Some 2,000 police personnel entered the University campus in Hyderabad on Sunday and lathicharged the students who were protesting peacefully.The police dragged the students and beat them up. They even entered girls hostel and switched off the lights and molested some of them. We strongly condemn these incidents."     

The MPs said the letter pleaded with the Congress chief to direct Chief Minister K Rosaiah to transfer police officials responsible for the repression and form a committee to monitor the situation and bring peace on the campus.
