The Telugu Desam Party members belonging to the Telangana region on Tuesday continued to protest in the House even as the State Assembly was adjourned for the day amid noisy scenes.

The Telugu Desam members staged a dharna at the Speaker’s podium in the Assembly even after Kiran Kumar Reddy announced the adjournment of the House until Wednesday. The TDP members insisted that the Speaker take up a debate on the terms of reference of the Srikrishna panel on Telangana issue in the House and shouted slogans in support of their demand. Nothing was audible in the din.

The TDP legislators declined to buzz until the House took up a discussion on the Telangana issue.  The MLAs stated that they would continue to stage a sit-in until Wednesday morning when the House assembles again.

Earlier, the Speaker was forced to adjourn the House, on the insistence of the TDP members who sought a debate on the Sunday’s incidents of violence at Osmania University. When the din by the Opposition leaders showed no let-up, the Speaker ordered the adjournment for the day.

The House witnessed tumultuous scenes over the issue when Kiran Kumar called for obituary references. As the TDP was insisting on its demand for a debate on Osmania University incidents, the MIM members sought that the House take up a discussion on reservation for Muslims in the state. Soon, the Speaker had to adjourn the Assembly a second time within 15 minutes.

The Legislative Council was also adjourned for the day after the Opposition leaders expressed their resentment over the terms of reference of the Srikrishna panel over Telangana statehood.
