Govt failed to contain prices: PRP

Kadapa, Feb 8: Praja Rajyam politburo member C Ramachandraiah on Monday said the Centre failed to curb spiraling prices of essentials.Speaking to reporters at the party office here, he charged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with not taking concrete measures to contain rising prices at the recently convened Chief Ministers' conference. He urged the government to focus its attention on overcoming food shortage prevalent in various states.

Without this, the government cannot contain the rising prices, he pointed out.He expressed surprise at the suggestion made by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar that prices would fall if it rains on time. Instead of taking steps to reduce prices, the government is raising bus fares which further overburden the poor, he added.
