Hyderabad, Jan 20: The Joint Action Committee spearheading the Telangana movement on Wednesday decided to call off the proposed bandh for Thursday. The decision to drop Thursday's bandh was taken to facilitate the pilgrims to visit Sammakka-Sarakka jatara at Medaram in Warangal district, the JAC sources said.JAC  leader and senior Congress leader Damodar Reddy made a statement to this effect stating that there would be no bandh on Thursday in order not to inconvenience the pilgrims coming from far-off places.

However, the Joint Action Committee of the Osmania University students opposed the statement made by the political JAC, their counterpart with regard to the Thursday’s bandh.''The bandh will be observed as scheduled earlier,'' the student leaders of JAC told the media.Denying the reports that the JAC has dropped the bandh for Thursday, the students said some people were making statements contrary to the decisions of JAC of Osmania students. Some persons keen on slowing down the pace of the movement were coming out with such statements, the student leaders observed.
