Telangana gets Union Cabinet's nod

The Union Cabinet on Thursday gave nod for the formation of Telangana State by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh.

The decision was taken in two-hour long meeting held at the residence of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Reading the decision taken by the cabinet, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that it has been decided to constitute a Group of Ministers to address the issues that need resolution both at the State and Central Government levels.

The cabinet has also has approved the GoM to determine the mechanism to ensure appropriate legal and administrative steps for both successive States and measures to ensure safety and security for all three regions of coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana including the guarantees of the fundamental rights.

Hyderabad will be the joint capital of both the States for a period of 10 years, Shinde said. A special financial department may also be constituted.
