Kurnool,Oct 27: A nine-member team of Union Government officials arrived here from New Delhi,to assess the extent of damage in the Kurnool district, continued their field visits on the second day also.The team headed by Deepti Vilasa, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, after interaction with officials, visited Nidduru, Sunkesula and holy town Mantralayam to assess the magnitude of Flood fury.Talking to media persons on Tuesday, Deepti Vilasa said that the team would make a correct assessment of the loss only through field visits. After completing the visits in these districts, some members will visit Nandyal on October 28.

He said that the team would submit its assessment report at the earliest to facilitate release of funds from the National Calamities Contingency Fund in addition to Rs 1,000 crore already announced by the Prime Minister.Disaster Management Commissioner S Balasubramanyam submitted a memorandum estimating the Flood loss in Kurnool, Mahabubnagar, Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts at Rs 11,609 crore.The team will also visit Flood hit areas in Guntur district to assess the damage.The state had submitted a report to the Centre indicating its requirement at Rs 12,666 crore.
