The Samaikhyandhra Students Joint Action Committee on Thursday appealed to the Centre to keep the Andhra Pradesh State united.

Talking to media persons after holding a meeting with the representatives of students' unions from different universities at Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur, JAC convener N Samuel said that the JAC leaders would go to New Delhi to press for the demand for keeping the State united, if need arises. He said that the JAC believes that people from all the regions were opposed to bifurcation of State. Andhra Pradesh has made rapid progress in all sectors as it remained united since its formation, he said.

Samuel said that the JAC would appeal to the Centre not to bow to pressure tactics of a section of leaders and parties and respect the views of  larger section of the people. The JAC has demanded that the Centre make a clear announcement on statehood issue to put an end to uncertainty.

The student leaders also demanded that the government lift all police cases booked against students who participated in the statehood agitation.
