Following further increase in the prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, and keeping the common man’s plight in mind, Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy on Friday stated that government would take a decision to increase the subsidy on gas cylinders.

An increase in the subsidy would mean that the government will share some of the cost of increased prices, thereby bringing down the prices of LPG cylinders.

Addressing the gathering at a function to herald top performers in implementation of the 20-Point Economic Programme held at the state Secretariat, Mr Ramnarayan Reddy said that when compared to other states, Andhra Pradesh has so far provided more subsidy on each cylinder.

“Keeping in view the position of the state funds, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy would take a decision on increasing the subsidy on a cylinder,” said the Minister.

He hinted that the latest hike in the gas price has come under discussion. The Finance Minister is understood to have discussed the issue with the officers of his Department.

The Minister, who distributed rolling trophies to the top three districts for effective implementation of the 20-Point Economic Programme, said that those lying below the poverty line would be given a helping hand thorough the cited scheme.

He also made clear that no party could think of ignoring the scheme as it stood for uplift of the downtrodden.

“Funds earmarked for the programme were insufficient,” he said and assured to raise the point in Cabinet for discussion, and try to get more money sanctioned.

Kurnool and YSR Kadapa districts received first and second prizes while Chittoor, Nellore and Mahabubnagar districts were placed in the third place for receiving the rolling trophy.

District Collectors concerned received the trophies.

20-Point Economic Programmer Chairman Tulasi Reddy earlier welcomed the gathering and listed out the achievements under the programme.
