Alleging that both the Centre and State governments have failed to redress the farmers’ problems in the state, Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu stated that the TDP would organize Rasta Rokos across the district centres on Thursday from 10 AM to 1 PM.

Talking to media persons at NTR Trust Bhavan, the TDP chief condemned the government lax attitude in fixing Minimum Support Price for paddy. He added that due to the government’s indifferent attitude, the farmers in the state are in fix and are resorting to committing suicides.

Criticising Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for conducting `Rythu Chaitanya Yatras’ in the state, without addressing the real issues faced by the farmers, the former chief minister stated that the programme would become `Rythu Revolt Yatra’ as the government has neglected the farmers’ welfare.

Mr Naidu demanded that the government immediately fix Minimum Support Price for paddy and take proper measures for discoloured paddy, which was spoilt due to unseasonal rains in the state.

He said the helpline centres started by former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy to offer help to farmers contemplating suicides are nonfunctioning.

“The TDP would organize the Rasta Rokos across the district centres to protest against the governments negligence towards farmers,” Mr Naidu stated.

He called upon all party cadre to participate widely in the Rasta Roko and make it a grand success.

Mr Naidu added that he would write a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, bringing the issues faced by the farmers to their notice.
