Minister for Information Technology Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Thursday lamented that there is no proper security or safety for persons from Andhra Pradesh who are pursuing higher studies in the United States of America and said that this issue has to be addressed on an urgent basis.

Speaking at a function to unveil a statue at the Tank Bund, Mr Lakshmaiah reminded of the recent fatal gunning down of one Arjun Reddy, a native of Mahabubnagar who was killed in New Jersey on April 29. “There is therefore a great need to take special care for those who were living in the United States,” said Mr Lakshmaiah.

Expressing his sympathies with the bereaved family members of Arjun Reddy, the Minster lamented that it was unfortunate that such incidents had been on the increase in a democratic set-up.

He also demanded that the government of United States take suitable action and measures to ensure safety of Indians living in that country.
