He also demanded that the state government make concerted efforts to ensure such incidents are not repeated in the future.

The former chief minister further said that the police department was not doing enough to prevent such kind of incidents, despite attacks on women continuing.

“The police in the state have totally failed in preventing attacks on women,” Mr Naidu said.

Demanding financial assistance from the state government for the victim, the TDP chief announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 from the NTR Trust for her immediate requirements.

The former chief minister also stated that the NTR Trust would bear the victim’s educational expenses.

Meanwhile, the city police have registered a criminal case and have formed three special teams to nab the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

The incident took place when the victim, said to be an inmate of the Christian Old Age Home at Ramnagar, received a call during church service and had gone out at around 10:30 AM.

She was attending service along with her mother on the occasion of Palm Sunday.

Her visually challenged mother received a call at around 1 PM about her daughter's condition. The girl was left bleeding near the Shanti theatre from where she was rushed to a private hospital and later shifted to the Government Maternity Hospital at Petlaburj.

The city police had later in the evening released a statement which said that the victim was found with heavy bleeding.

The statement also said that forensic experts have taken blood samples for chemical analysis. The clothes and vaginal swabs of the victim have been preserved, the police statement further said.
