Alleging that the Central and state governments are involved in scams worth thousands of crores of rupees, Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday said that this money could have well been spent on schemes for the welfare of poor and downtrodden.

Talking to media persons after participating in a `Rythu Kosam’ rally at Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district the former chief minister alleged that scams have become a part of life under Congress rule.

He added that every other day, a major scam breaks out, in which crores of rupees are swindled. Mr Naidu said that Ministers and leaders of both the Centre and State governments are looting the public and yet failing to give any solace to the people of the country.

Farmers of the state are resorting to suicides, having fallen into a debt trap, yet the government has failed to take notice of their plight, Mr Naidu said.

Rampant corruption has resulted in price rise, he said. The former chief minister charged the government of having failed to check the prices of essential commodities.

Mr Naidu had earlier arrived here in the Secunderabad-Kakinada Goutami Express in the wee hours on Monday to participate in the `Rythu Kosam’ rallies in East Godavari, West Godavari and Khammam districts from January 10 to 12. The rallies have been planned to bring pressure on the government to announce adequate remunerative packages for the rain-hit farmers.

He also lashed out at the Congress government for not representing the state’s interests before the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal over the water sharing of the River Krishna. This had left the state suffering a grave injustice, he opined.

Reacting on the news that former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy was staging a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal verdict, Mr Naidu said that the Kadapa leader might as well stage the dharna at the Samadhi of his father and former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, since his government had failed to argue the state’s case before the Tribunal properly.
