Protesting against the curbs on media from reporting the agitations which are ongoing at the Osmania University campus, leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday took out a silent march from Babu Jagjivan Ram statue at Basheer Bagh to Tank Bund.

The BJP leaders, led by city BJP president Venkatareddy and senior party leader Bandaru Dattatreya, marched along the route in silence.

Talking to media persons before start off for the silent march, Mr Dattatreya said that the march was in protest against the government’s policy of silencing the media. He said that the media is a pillar of Democracy.

The BJP leader criticised the government for trying to suppress the people’s right to information about the happenings in the state.

Mr Dattareya demanded that the paramilitary forced deployed at the Osmania University campus should be withdrawn with immediate effect.

He said that the “BJP condemns in the strong possible terms, the attempt of the government to curb the student’s right to protest and the people’s right to information.”
