What's Behind

Pelli SandaD directed by Gowri Ronanki attracted the attention of all as director Raghavendra Rao, the creator of yesteryear classic Pelli Sandadi supervised the direction department. With yesteryear Pelli Sandadi hero Srikanth's son Roshan making his debut with this film, expectations increased. Let us see whether Pelli SandaD created the magic of the yesteryear classic.

Story Review

Vasishta ( Raghavendra Rao), a basketball player is the recipient of the Dronacharya award. At the request of Maya (Shivani Rajasekhar)'s father (Rajendra Prasad), he narrates his story. Young Vasishta ( Roshan) is a talented basketball player and as he and his father (Rao Ramesh) differs over his marriage, egged by his uncle (Shakalaka Shankar), he decides to go to his cousin's marriage. There he comes across the bride's friend Sahasra (Sree Leela) and both have fights initially. After few moments, both fall for each other. But things get complicated as her father (Prakash Raj) takes a tough stand and this forces Sahasra to take a shocking decision. To find out more about it, enjoy Pelli SandaD on screen.

Artists, Technicians Review

Gowri Ronanki, a protege of Raghavendra Rao starts the narration in an interesting manner with the introduction of Raghavendra Rao on screen. Right after the introduction of Roshan into the story, narration from then turns out to be extremely routine. All the scenes involving heroes, heroines their fights, etc in the marriage have similarities to earlier films and even to yesteryear Pellisandadi.

Each and every scene and frame and characters turn extremely monotonous and routine and so are the characters and the dialogues. Even the hilarious scenes fail to make viewers laugh. The entire story has Raghavendra Rao stamp on it and it looked outdated to the core. Gowri Ronanki failed with her story, screenplay, and narration as everything lacked novelty. Dialogues are outdated.

Roshan performed well in his role. As a newcomer, he did a good job. He danced well and enacted stunts and did his bit in romancing. He still needs to work hard and improve his dialogue delivery. It looked like he is still giving answers to the questions rather than doing it naturally. Sree Leela looked cute and attracted with her red hot glamor looks. She looked sensuous in songs and danced well.

Raghavendra Rao made his acting debut and attracted with his screen presence though he got an inconsequential role. Prakash Raj and Rao Ramesh as the fathers of Sree Leela and Roshan played their roles to perfection. Rajendra Prasad, Shakalaka Shankar, and Vennela Kishore are ok and others like Posani Krishna Murali, Vennela Kishore, Tanikella Bharani, Raghu Babu, Jhansi, Fish Venkat got limited screen presence.

Keeravani's music is good. He came with very good foot-tapping tunes and all the songs are well shot and well-choreographed. Raghavendra Rao's magic of using flowers and fruits beautifying heroines on screen is seen once again. His background music is good only in parts. Sunil Kumar Nama's cinematography is good. It beautified the scenes on screen. Tammiraju's editing could have been far better. Production values are good.

Rating Analysis

Gowri Ronanki, Roshan, Sree Leela's Pelli SandaD pales in comparison or without comparison to Raghavendra Rao, Srikanth's Pellisandadi. Raghavendra Rao who supervised the direction of Pelli SandaD seems to have got stuck with the 90s style of making and Gowri Ronanki failed to put her point across in the changing environment. This resulted in an outdated and obsolete product and had Pelli SandaD released during 90s also , it would have met the same disappointing fate. Considering all these points, CJ goes with a 1.5 rating to Pelli SandaD.
