What's Behind

Ajay Bhupati's multi starrer Maha Samudram with young heroes Sharwanand and Siddharth captured the imagination of all. WIth Ajyay Bhupati coming creating a sensation with RX100, expectations increased. The film's promos increased the attention and the film hit the screens today. Let us find out what Maha Samudram offered to movie lovers.

Story Review

Contrasting personalities Arjun(Sharwanand) and Vijay (Siddharth) are good friends. While Arjun is frank and straightforward and does not hide anything in his heart, Vijay is a complex personality. Vijay has plans to become the police and has his own mission to become one while Sharwnand has plans to start his own business. Vijay has a lover in form of Mahalakshmi (Aditi Rao Hydari) who goes to any extent to help him, while Arjun has his mother (Saranya Ponvanan) and his uncle Chunchu Mama (Jagapathi Babu) via sea. All their lives turn topsy turvy due to some shocking developments. How dreaded smuggler Dhananjay (Ramachandra Rao) and his brother Gooni Babji (Rao Ramesh) are connected to it, form the crux of Maha Samudram.

Artists, Technicians Review

Ajay Bhupati who shot to fame with a rustic love story RX100 which had a stunning twist came with a powerful story. He got everything going for him up to a point. He starts off the narration by introducing various characters in a powerful and impactful manner for the first 20-30 minutes. The narration then picks up the pace with fast-paced developments and interesting twists and turns. With good commercial elements and powerful and intense dialogues, the first half ends with a good interval bang raising expectations for the second half.

Ajay Bhupati who got everything right for most of the first half getting the optimum out of his cast and crew however flattered in the second half. The narration turns routine and predictability creeps in testing the patience of the viewers. Cliched narration, routine narration in the pre-climax and climax undid all his hard work. Ajay Bhupati has taken few cinematic liberties and at times it did not gel well. Siddharth and Jagapathi Babu's roles' intensity and purpose go missing after a point and the lack of real twists in the second half affected the film in a big way. Siddharth surprisingly goes missing for the entire second half and this diluted the intensity of the story. Even the rivalry between Siddhartha and Sharwnand is not highlighted to the core.

Sharwanand got a powerful role and he surprises all with his power-packed performance. Sharwanand who is known for his family-oriented roles did a mass and intense role-taking everyone by surprise. His body language, mannerisms, and dialogue delivery made a powerful impact. He showed variations in his expressions and emotions and carried himself well in the role elevating the sense with ease.

Siddharth slipped into the role effortlessly. He performed well as a man on a mission affected by the circumstances. Siddharth known for his lover boy roles played the rugged and rough role to perfection. Aditi Rao Hydari got a good screen presence and performed well in her role showing love, pain in her eyes through emotions and expressions. Anu Emmanuel is good but got a limited screen presence.

Ramachandra Rao with his menacing looks created fear in the minds of all in his role as Dhananjay. Jagapthi Babu as Chunchu Mama performed well and dialogues for him are good. He did his role effortlessly showing the right kinds of expressions. Rao Ramesh as Gooni Babji stole the show once again. His wicked mannerisms and physical transformation surprise all.

Chaitan Bharadwaj's music is good. All the songs are well shot but the placement of the songs at times affected the film's pace. The background music made a powerful impact elevating the scenes taking them to another level. Raj Thota's cinematography showed Visakhapatnam in a beautiful and appealing manner. The seashore and the scenes in the sea are well shot, The visuals made a pleasing impression on viewers. KL.Praveen's editing could have been better especially in the second half are there are many drags. Production values are good.

Rating Analysis

Ajay Bhupati with Maha Samudram increased expectations among movie lovers. Ajay Bhupati came with a powerful plot and roped in an exciting star cast. To some extent, he emerged successful in making an impression with action and mass elements. However, he loses steam in the second half, and with a lack of twists, intensity, real drama, and emotions, the graph which reached the crest took a downside and formed a trough. Considering all these points, CJ goes with a 2.75 rating for Maha Samudram.
