Kriti Sanon Controversial Raksha Bandhan Ad Taken Down

Kriti Sanon’s Raksha Bandhan advertisement for a jewellery brand has been withdrawn after criticism over her outfit and the campaign’s presentation of the festival. The advertisement featured Kriti in an ivory outfit with a bralette-style blouse, cape and draped skirt. The campaign quickly became a topic of debate on social media.

Kangana Ranaut was among those who questioned the styling, arguing that the outfit did not suit an advertisement connected with Raksha Bandhan. Kriti responded by saying that festivals are defined by their emotions and traditions rather than a woman’s clothing. She also questioned the continued practice of telling women what they should wear.

The discussion soon moved beyond the advertisement. Rahul Gandhi supported Kriti’s right to make her own choices, while her sister Nupur Sanon also defended her. Actor Suzanne Bernert, meanwhile, criticised the campaign from a different perspective, saying that clothing should not automatically be presented as empowerment, particularly when advertisements can influence younger audiences.

Kangana continued to comment on the controversy after Rahul Gandhi backed Kriti, turning the issue into a wider discussion about culture, feminism and personal freedom. Following the backlash, the jewellery brand removed the advertisement and issued a statement expressing respect for Indian traditions and festivals. The company said that hurting anyone’s sentiments was never its intention.
