February 2026 Box Office Disappointment

February 2026 was a disastrous month for Telugu cinema, with every major release failing to attract audiences. Theaters across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana saw their worst occupancies in recent memory, with collections barely covering electricity and maintenance costs. Distributors and exhibitors are counting significant losses due to poor ticket sales. 

Several films, including Euphoria, Hey Balwanth, Vishnu Vinyasam, Sri Chidambaram Garu, Funky, Nilave, and Seetha Payanam, failed to perform at the box office due to poor word-of-mouth or lack of interest. These films had decent expectations but crashed due to various reasons, leaving theaters within their opening weekend.

The only silver lining was Couple Friendly, starring Santosh Sobhan and Manasa Varanasi, which performed slightly better in A Centers and multiplexes. However, its success was limited, and B and C center theaters in smaller towns saw little relief.

The Telugu film industry is hoping for a better March with bigger releases lined up, including the Ugadi season, which is expected to revive collections. Biggies like Dhurandhar 2, Toxic and Ustaad Bhagat Singh releasing this March kickstarting summer season.
