AR Rahman Opens Up About Working on Ramayana Despite Being a Muslim

Ar Rahman has expressed his pride in working on Nitesh Tiwari's 'Ramayana' movie, despite being a Muslim. In an interview, he stated that religious beliefs shouldn't hinder aspects like storytelling, music, and shared cultural knowledge. Rahman recalled studying 'Ramayana' and 'Mahabharata' in school, which taught him valuable moral lessons.

He emphasized that stories like Ramayana transcend religious boundaries and connect people through shared values. Rahman pointed out that he's working alongside Hans Zimmer, a Jew, on the Hindu film, showcasing the power of art and cultural unity. He believes art should not be linked to religion and that knowledge should be gained from anywhere, regardless of the source.

Rahman credited spiritual teachings for shaping his thoughts, citing Prophet Muhammad's emphasis on gaining knowledge from anyone. He urged people to shed narrow-mindedness and selfishness, allowing them to shine in society. Rahman expressed pride in being part of the international level 'Ramayana' project, showcasing India's rich cultural heritage.

The movie, produced by Namit Malhotra, boasts a star studded cast, including Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, and Sunny Deol. With a massive budget of over Rs. 4 thousand crores, the film is set for a Diwali 2026 and 2027 release.
