Hombale Films, the production house behind the massive hits KGF, Kantara, Mahavatar and Salaar, is reportedly in advanced discussions to purchase a stake in Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The buzz began after Diageo India, the current owner, signalled a possible sale, sparking widespread speculation among fans and media. Although Diageo has denied any firm plans, the rumor has generated strong excitement across Karnataka and the broader IPL audience.

Recent reports from Kannada outlets highlight Hombale Films as one of the frontrunners among several interested parties, including Zerodha cofounder Nikhil Kamath, the Adani Group, JSW Group, Serum Institute’s Adar Poonawalla, and Devyani International. The franchise, which finally captured its first IPL title in 2025, is said to be valued at roughly USD 2 billion (₹17,000 crore), making the potential deal a landmark in sportsentertainment collaborations.

Hombale Films’ interest aligns with its recent strategy to diversify beyond film production into sports and other sectors. The company has already partnered with RCB as the official digital partner since 2023, creating promos and engagement content, so a deeper ownership role would be a natural extension. If the acquisition moves forward, it could boost both the film house’s brand and the franchise’s fanbase across Karnataka.

While no official confirmation has been issued, insiders suggest a jointownership structure may be formed, with Hombale Films joining forces with other private investors. The sale process is expected to conclude by March 31, 2026, ahead of the IPL 2026 season, and fans are eagerly awaiting the final announcement.
