Vijay Kushi Re Release

Vijay's iconic romance film Kushi, directed by SJ Suryah, was re-released in theaters on September 25, 2025, to mark its 25th anniversary. Despite its massive success two decades ago, the re-release has failed to attract audiences, with the film opening with a mere ₹1 crore gross in Tamil Nadu. The film stars Vijay and Jyothika in lead roles, with notable performances from Vivekh, Mumtaj, Vijayakumar, and Nizhalgal Ravi.

The re-release trend has gained significant success in South India over the past few years, with Sakthi Film Factory and AM Rathnam behind the re-release of Kushi. However, audiences seem to have grown tired of constant re releases, and Kushi's poor performance is a testament to this. In contrast, Vijay's film Ghilli, which was re-released in 2024, was a huge success, collecting around ₹25 crore gross in Tamil Nadu and over ₹30 crore worldwide.

Ghilli's re-release was a sensation, opening with ₹4.3 crore gross in Tamil Nadu on its first day. Unfortunately, Kushi's opening day collections are nowhere near Ghilli's numbers, and its weekend bookings are also not promising. Producer AM Rathnam, who is currently facing financial difficulties, had high hopes for Kushi's re release, but the film's poor performance has come as a huge disappointment.

The film's cinematography was handled by Jeeva, and B. Lenin and VT Vijayan took care of the editing. With its poor box office performance, it's unlikely that Kushi will match Ghilli's success in its full run. The re release of Kushi has failed to recreate the magic of its original release, and its box office numbers are a far cry from Ghilli's impressive collections.
