DC fans have a reason to celebrate as James Gunn, the director and co-head of DC Films, has announced the title and release date for the sequel to his summer hit "Superman". The film, titled "Superman: Man of Tomorrow", is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027, and will star David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
The announcement was made on social media, featuring a comic book image of Superman standing next to Lex Luthor in his Warsuit, hinting at the sequel's focus on Luthor's rivalry with Superman. The first film, released this summer, was a commercial success, grossing over $611 million at the worldwide box office and becoming the highest grossing superhero film of the year.
The sequel's release date indicates that it will follow the 2026 releases of "Supergirl" and "Clayface", and will debut before Matt Reeves' "The Batman Part II", currently slated for October 1, 2027. With the accelerated schedule, fans won't have to wait long to see the next chapter of the Superman saga.
The artwork shared by Gunn suggests that Lex Luthor will play a significant role in the sequel, potentially using his high tech armor to rival Superman's abilities. The film's title, "Man of Tomorrow", is a nod to one of Superman's iconic nicknames and may hint at the story's themes and direction. Rachel Brosnahan is expected to reprise her role as Lois Lane in the sequel.
