The Indian government has taken a significant step in regulating digital content by banning over 20 Ott Platforms, including ALTT, ULLU, and Desiflix, for violating various laws related to "indecent" representation of women. The ban aims to curb the easy availability of pornographic material, particularly to minors, and ensure that digital content remains within the bounds of decency and the law.
The list of banned Ott Platforms includes ALTT, ULLU, Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalva App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, and Triflicks. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has directed Internet Service Providers to disable or remove public access to these websites within India.
The government's decision to ban these Ott Platforms is a part of its efforts to regulate digital content and ensure that it adheres to the laws of the land. This is not the first time the government has taken such action, as in March this year, 19 websites, 10 apps, and 57 social media handles of 18 Ott Platforms were banned for publishing obscene and vulgar content.
The ban on these Ott Platforms will likely have a significant impact on the digital content landscape in India. While the government's intention is to curb the spread of indecent content, it remains to be seen how this ban will be enforced and what implications it will have for the future of digital content in the country.
