The Madras High Court has issued an order to protect Kamal Haasan's upcoming film Thug Life from piracy, banning the illegal release and streaming of the film on 793 websites. The court's decision came after a plea filed by the film's production house, Raaj Kamal Films International, ahead of the film's worldwide release on June 5. Directed by Mani Ratnam, Thug Life stars Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR, Trisha, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, and Joju George, and is expected to be a major box-office draw.

Thug Life is set to release in over 3,500 theaters globally, with the cast and crew actively involved in publicity events across the country. However, the film has been embroiled in controversy in Karnataka after comments made by Kamal Haasan during the Thug Life audio launch event. The actor's remarks about the Kannada language received backlash from Kannada organizations, which demanded an apology and threatened to prevent the film from being screened in Karnataka if their demands were not met.

The Madras High Court's order extends to internet service providers, including BSNL, and aims to curb piracy that could potentially result in significant financial damage to the producers. The court's decision is a significant step in protecting the film's intellectual property and ensuring its success at the box office.

The controversy surrounding Thug Life has led to a petition being filed in the Karnataka High Court. During the hearing, the court questioned Kamal Haasan's qualifications on the matter, stating that public statements should not hurt the sentiments of any community. The film's production house has taken steps to protect the film's interests, and fans are eagerly awaiting its release.
