Announcing the modalities for admission to Indian Institute of Information Technologies (IIITs) in the state, Law and Technical Education Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana on Thursday said the list of qualified candidates for IIITs would be announced on June 25.

Talking to reporters, he said the government would provide best infrastructure facilities and faculty in the IIITs with a cost of Rs 1,000 crores.

Stating the classes for IIITs would begin from July 12, he said out of 3,000 seats, 85 per cent seats would be reserved for candidates with rural background and 15 per cent from urban areas.

He said the government reduced seats in IIITs this year due to shortage of infrastructure and faculty. The government would consider increasing the intake capacity once it establishes sufficient infrastructure like buildings, hostel facilities and faculty, he pointed out.

He said the government would regularize the services of all contract lecturers in IIITs in a phased manner.He said the government had already released Rs 700 crore for three universities and would release another Rs 100 crore soon. A Rs 2000 crore proposal had already been sent to the Centre for grants for the IIITs, he stated.

Stating the IIITs had received 26,492 applications for 3,000 seats, he said last year nearly the IIITs had received 32,000 applications for 6,000 seats.

The certificates of the qualified candidates would be verified on July 9 and 10 and the classes would commence from July 12, he added.
