A popular shopping complex at Punjagutta here, the 'Hyderabad Central' mall was seized by the Greater Hyderabd Municipal Corporation officials on Tuesday as the mall managers did not pay  the tax to GHMC for the last two  years. 

The mall, owned by Pantaloon Retail (India) Limited, has to pay Rs 2.4 crore in arrears to the civic body. The GHMC officials confiscated the accounts and other documents of the mall disrupting the normal business.

According to sources, the owners responded to the eleventh hour call and assured the GHMC authorities that they would clear the dues on Tuesday itself. 

This is the first instance  in the  city when a mall of this stature was seized. Invested to the tune of Rs 701 millions, this is the second largest mall in the country, the first being in Bengaluru.
