Malayalam film Sambhavam Adhyayam Onnu directed by Jithu Satheesan Mangalathu turned out to be a big hit in theatres when it released on 6 March 2026. The film is now streaming in various languages on Jio+Hotstar. Let us see how the film thrilled movie lovers.
Sambhavam Adhyayam Onnu revolves around three police officers from Kerala who in search of their missing colleague enters Velloorkkatt forest and experiences strange happenings. Transferred from the Vellurkkad police station, CPO Anand (Askar Ali) along with his colleagues Ashokan (Asim Jamal) and Regi (Vineeth Kumar) goes in search of the missing cops from the Perumala station and enters the Velloorkkatt forest in the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.
Strange things happen and all boils down to the reason behind the mysterious happenings and how they are connected to the missing cops and how they dealt with the alarming situation.
Most of the actors are unknown to the Tollywood viewers. However all of them, Askar Ali, Vineeth Kumar, Sidharth Bharathan, Assim Jamal, Senthil Krishna, Fahad Sidheekh, Sreekanth, Kanakamma K and Suparna did justice to their roles. They came up with natural and realistic performances and ensured that the momentum is maintained. They delivered dialogues with ease and added value to the narration.
Sambhavam Adhyayam Onnu story is penned by director Jithu Satheesan Mangalathu. He infect extrapolated his earlier short film Sambhavam and turned it into a thrilling feature film. Though doing so is quite difficult, he did a commendable job. But most of the scenes in the first half are quite dragged and it happens as he tried to turn his short film into a full length thriller.
Many films with similar backdrop came earlier but the director managed to keep the viewers engaged and for the first time a director did so in Malayalam which is known for its creativity. In the quest for creativity he missed few logics and viewers can realise when observed closely.
He starts off in an interesting manner and maintains the same intensity till the interval. After the interval the intensity increases in the second half. The way he blended the western concept time loop with mythology excites everyone.
Cinematography of Naveen Jose ensured that the thrill factor is elevated with the visuals taking due care that the monotony doesn't creep in though the entire film happened in the forests. Godwin Thomas with his background music elevated the scenes to the next level. The sound design is good and increased the eerie mood. The editing of Arjun Prakash is decent enough but at times, the shift in timelines ended up in creating confusion.
The story is decent, and the screenplay is sharp. The direction is quite good, but the writing could have been better. The director failed to highlight the emotions of the family members of the cops fighting, those missing and even the feelings of the cops for their family members. One gets a feeling that a renowned cast would have come up with a more impactful performances. Dialogues are good, and production values are fine.
Altogether, Sambhavam Adhyayam Onnu turns out to be a interesting and exciting thriller. Director Jithu Satheesan Mangalathu came up with an exciting entertainer and managed to thrill viewers with interesting time loop concept. However those who happen to watch Hollywood films regularly or even films like Edge of Tomorrow and Tenet do not find anything new. A little fine-tuning of the script and the concentrating more on sound design rather than opting for VFX would have done wonders for the output.
