Tamil film DNA starring Atharva, Nimisha which got good response is now releasing in Telugu as My Baby. The film directed by Nelson Venkatesan is releasing on 18 July 2025. The film's OTT rights have been bagged by Jio Cinema and Hotstar. Let us see how the film entertained movie lovers.
My Baby story revolves around the fate of two children who had been swapped at birth. Parents of Anand (Atharva Murali) and Divya (Nimisha Sajayan), get their children married in the hope that they will overcome their psychological disorders.
Prior to their marriage, Anand suffers a breakup and becomes an alcoholic while Divya suffers from the borderline personality disorder for which both are mocked and made fun of. What changes their marriage brings in their lives and those surrounding them from the rest of the narration.
Atharva Murali slipped into the role effortlessly. He showed variations in his expressions and emotions and delivered dialogues accordingly. He showed traits as a drunkard and then how he transformed himself as a father who craves for his missing baby. Nimisha Sajayan performed well in the role of a person suffering from borderline personality disorder. She made an impact in the emotional scenes after she became a mother.
Zeeshan Ayyub, Balaji Sakthivel, Ramesh Thilak, Viji Chandrasekhar, Chetan, Riythvika, Subramaniam Siva and Karunakaran and others performed according to their roles.
My Baby story is penned by Nelson Venkatesan and tries to thrill viewers by coming up with a thriller that is grounded and realistic. He starts the narration in an interesting way but he overstretched showing the lead actor as an alcoholic which he could have avoided. To establish his character, he included a bar song and a few scenes but they dragged to the core.
Then the narration takes a convenient path and the screenplay turns predictable. Same is the case with the female lead character. The interest levels increase only after the marriage of the lead pair. Director dwells on various issues like postpartum depression, psychosis and how a father tries to identify the newborn baby. The screenplay turns racy from this situation increasing the curiosity levels.
He showed the investigation scenes quite well but it also suffers from loopholes and clichéd narration. The breakup sequences, serial-like climax and the forced special song robbed the viewers of all the thrills.
Ghibran Vaibodha with his background score added value to the narration. He managed to elevate the scenes to the next level. The music is tuned by Sreekanth Hariharan , Sathya Prakash , Anal Akash , Praveen Saivi , Sahi Siva is just ok. Songs at times turned out to be the speed breakers. Editing of Sabu Joseph could have been far better as there are many repetitive scenes in the film. Dialogues are ok and production values are good.
Altogether, My Baby with few thrills and surprises connects with family viewers. Director Nelson Venkatesan got an interesting story and got good performances from the cast and crew. A racy screenplay, doing away with the clichés, would have made a more powerful impact. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 2 rating for My Baby.
