Meghalu Cheppina Prema Kadha story revolves around a girl and a boy who meet eachother under different circumstances and how they overcome the roadblocks that hit their lives. Varun (Naresh Agasthya) who is an NRI and a son of a business magnate returns back to realise his musical dreams happen to meet Meghana (Rabiya Khatoon), who experiences turbulence in her life due to her friends in Valparai. What future got in store for them, how it is connected to Varun's grandmother Kamakshi (Radhika Sarathkumar), his parents Mahendra (Suman) and mother (Aamani), Omkar (Tanikella Bharani) CEO of the Omkar Music, Meghana's mother (Tulasi), her colleagues Komali (Vidyullekha Raman), Aditya (Raja Chembolu), IT Company CEO (Harshavardan) form rest of the narration.
Naresh Agasthya came up with a subtle and realistic performance. He didnot overdo himself and performed according to the situation. He showed the youthful exuberance and showed the emotions when his views didnot meet that of his father, showed the love towards his mother and grandmother and also showed concern, care and love for his girlfriend in a silent manner. He expressed quite well and emoted according to the situation and impressed with his screen presence.
Rabiya Khatoon performed well as a youthful and bubbly girl. She showed good energy as a girl who takes things in her stride even if they donot go in her way. She expressed with her eyes in an effective manner and she delivered dialogues in a natural and realistic way. The scenes featuring Naresh Agasthya and Rabiya Khatoon stands out in the film.
Radhika Sarathkumar made a powerful impact in the role of the grandmother. She delivered dialogues with ease and her screenpresence added value to the proceedings. Suman is good in the role of a rich father who wishes his son to takeover his businesses and Aamani did her role well as a caring mother.
Tulasi is good in the role of heroine's mother. Her dialogues with her daughter are good, at times hilarious and at times caring and realistic. She got more meaty role compared to Aamani. Harshavardhan as the CEO, Vidyullekha Raman as the friend evoked few laughs. Raja Chembolu played an important role and is good. Tanikella Bharani made his presence in a key role.
Meghalu Cheppina Prema Katha story is penned by Vipin. The film is a musical, romantic entertainer. He starts the narration in an interesting manner though many films came where the protagonist returns back from the foreign land to pursue his musical dreams. The initial start with carnatic and classical music evokes interest and then the hero, heroine's introduction scenes in the Valpari.
However after sometime, with the flashback elements the narration assumes a predictable tone. But what keeps the movie afloat is the melodious and beautifully shot songs. The first half ends with a song in the pub and though the situation is ok, the song didnot look apt for the pub. The way the director showcased the love of the protagonist for his grandmother and music and realisation of her dreams ,looks something different.
When one expected a better and more racy second half, the story keeps on dragging with unnecessary and repetitive elements so much so that even a two hour film looked like four hours. The songs though melodious became more and at times impacted the pace. With no real twists and turns, the director mostly depended on the dialogues. To some extent dialogues worked while at times they looked silly especially in the office premises of the heroine.
Finally the film comes to an end in a preditable manner. Director could have turned it more gripping with few interesting and exciting elements and doing away with repetitive scenes. Overall the story turned out to be average, screenplay and direction turned out to be decent.
Justin Prabhakaran came up with beautiful and melodious tunes to captivate movie lovers stirring the souls. He used carnatic and classical music to connect chords with the listeners. All the songs are well shot and well picturised. However too many songs and couple of songs placement impacted the flow of the narration. His background music added value to the narration. The background score helped in carrying the feel to the viewers.
Mohana Krishna's cinematography beautified the film on the screen. He captured the scenic locations of Valparai in an extraordinary manner. However, the editing of Marthand K. Venkatesh left a lot to be desired. There are many scenes and repetitions that dragged and the narration. Production values are good.
Altogether, Meghalu Cheppina Prema Katha is a feel good youthful musical entertainer. Naresh Agastya and Rabiya Khatoon elevated the scenes with their performances and director Vipin tried to entertain viewers with a romantic musical entertainer. Though he didn't deviate from the plot much, the uni dimensional screenplay, lack of real twists, predictable and simple story brought down the intensity and impact levels. Little fine-tuning of the script and racy screenplay would have added value to the final result. Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 2 rating for Meghalu Cheppina Prema Katha.
