Mecca Masjid undergoing renovation

Hyderabad :

The 426-year-old Jamia Masjid Shuajah near Charminar, which is believed to be older than Charminar and Mecca Masjid, is undergoing renovation on the eve of holy month of Ramzan, scheduled to start on August 22. The minarets of the mosque are being repaired and renovated and the building is getting a fresh coat of paint.

The work has been taken up by the Masjid committee after its repeated representations to the archives department to take up the work fell on deaf years. The mosque, built in  the Islamic year (1006) Hijri during the era of Ibrahim Qutub Shah, father of Hyderabda founder Quli Qutub Shah has a lot of historical significance as it was older than Charminar (seen in the backdrop).
