Jr doctors’ strike enters third day

Visakhapatnam,Oct 29: The strike launched by junior doctors of King George Hospital and teaching hospital of Andhra Medical College, entered third day on Thursday.They are demanding improved security for them after friends and family members of a patient had allegedly attacked them when the patient died while undergoing treatment on Monday.The efforts made by Superintendent of KGH M V R J Somayajulu, along with Collector J Syamala Rao and Commissioner of Police N Sambasiva Rao during the day to convince the junior doctors to call off their agitation and resume duties had failed.

The junior doctors are demanding to provide permanent security staff to them on the lines of Osmania and Gandhi medical college hospitals.The Collector agreed to appoint 30 private security guards on temporary basis at the hospital. However, the doctors did not relent and continued their strike.The junior doctors told there is no use in appointing private security guards at the hospital.The Commissioner of Police also agreed to increase the police strength in KGH.

 But the junior doctors refused to call off their agitation and insisted on permanent measures to be taken.Medical care to patients suffered as the junior doctors went on strike. Only emergency surgeries were performed and Out Patient Department was run partially.The Superintendent had asked the in-service post-graduate students to help the professors and assistant professors and 17 doctors from AMC were also being deputed to KGH.
