Nizamabad, Sept 23:
In a surprise raid, vigilance officials seized 11 lorries illegally carrying essential commodities, dal and rice towards Maharashtra, at Bikkanur mandal check post.
On a tip-off, the officials intercepted the lorries and seized all of them along with the material. The value of the seized rice and dal was estimated to cost Rs 17 lakhs.
Of late there have been complaints that a large number of lorries have been illegally transporting essential goods, thereby causing heavy loss to the district administration. Accordingly, the officials laid a trap and seized the vehicles at the Bikkanur mandal check post.
A case was registered against the lorry owners at Bikkanur police station on Wednesday. According to sources, the vigilance staff led by Superintendent of Police stopped and searched the vehicle at the checkpost.
