‘Cockpit voice recorder partially damaged’

Hyderabad, Sept 9 :

The Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) of the ill-fated Bell-430 helicopter, which crashed in Nallamala forest on last Wednesday, killing chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and four others, was found to be in a ‘partially damaged’ condition.

The Crisis Management Committee of the state government informed Minister for Home Smt P Sabita Indra Reddy that Indian representatives of the Bell-430 helicopter were asked to decode the CVR. It was learnt that since it was in a partially damaged condition decoding proved difficult.

Reliable sources said that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has informed that the CVR would be sent to the United States of America (USA) for decoding in case the exercise became difficult here.

The CVR-38 solid state model was manufactured by Universal Avionics Systems Corporation, TucSon-AZ, USA. The CMC held a meeting with the Home Minister to discuss the issue.
