Huzurabad By-Elections: Huge shock to CM KCR

BJP demolishes KCR's TRS bastion riding on Etela Rajender

Huzurabad By-Elections attracted the attention of the entire nation.  The by-elections became a battle of prestige after Telangana CM KCR sacked Etela Rajendra from his cabinet after stripping him of the Health Ministry portfolio after an inquiry committee set up by CM KCR confirmed encroachments of over 66 acres of land in Medak district by Etela Rajender.

Following this, Etela Rajender quit TRS and joined BJP, and went all out against the Telangana government headed by KCR. Telangana CM KCR took the by-elections as a prestige issue and left no stone unturned by announcing various schemes and welfare programs targeting Huzurabad elections and starting the prestigious Dalit Bandhu program from Huzurabad.

However, the Huzurabad elections gave a huge shock to CM KCR as BJP riding on Etela Rajender's mass image and popularity won the elections. Etela Rajender right from the start maintained a lead over his TRS candidate Gellu Srinivas Yadav and won by the margin of over 23,865 votes majority. Etela Rajender got 1,06,213 votes while Gellu Srinivas Yadav 82,348 votes.

While BJP is celebrating its victory, TRS is in a huge shock as it is a loss of face and dent in the popularity of CM KCR. Huzurabad by-elections result may change the dynamics and political equations in the state of Telangana in the coming days. Huzurabad by-elections once again proved that if there is huge anti-incumbency and the ruling party insults a leader having mass popularity like Etela Rajender, no amount of pampering in the form of welfare schemes and distribution of money to the voters will change the result. This result is something similar to West Bengal CM Mamata Bannerjee's loss to Suvendu Adhikari, a strong leader who was insulted in TMC by Mamata Bannerjee and who joined BJP to create a sensation.
