Movie lovers cannot forget the sensation Bollywood film Disco Dancer which released in 1988. The film starred Mithun Chakraborthy and directed by Babbar Subhash created a dancing sensation at the box office.
Bappi Lahari's music and songs and Mithun Chakraborthy's dances drove all crazy. Most of the songs were inspired by the western pop albums. Now reports are coming about the film's sequel. Reports are coming that the film's sequel is planned either with Allu Arjun or Ranbir Kapoor.
Director Subhash is planning to come up with the sequel. After a wait of over two years, Subhash B has concluded a legal dispute with Shemaroo Entertainment, who had raised concerns about copyright infringement when he proposed a sequel to the much-loved film, Disco Dancer starring Mithun Chakraborty. The Bombay High Court, on August 12th, delivered a ruling in favour of Subhash, granting him permission to proceed with the film
He said “Disco Dancer is my creation. In 2011, I entered into a business agreement with Shemaroo for certain limited video and satellite rights. However, I always retained the creative rights to my film. The court has vindicated my stand. I hold the creative and authorial rights to Disco Dancer.”
He added “I would love to have either Ranbir Kapoor or Allu Arjun in the lead role, as both are great dancers and actors. We will ask KV Vijayendra Prasad to write the story and screenplay. He was writing it until Shemaroo filed the case against my co-producer and me. I may direct the movie, but the final decision will rest with the actor who is cast as the lead.”
Speaking about the plot for the sequel, he said “Disco Dancer was the story of a poor boy who was accused of stealing, and how he fought against a business tycoon. This one will also be an anti-establishment story. We want to shoot in Russia as Disco Dancer has an audience there. We also plan to rope in three or four international music idols, including Russian groups, to compose some songs.”
