Projects should be result-oriented: CM

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has asked the irrigation officials to work out a system wherein any project taken up by the government should be result-oriented. He suggested that a plan of action should be worked out for taking up irrigation projects and executing them within a stipulated time.

The Chief Minister reviewed the status of modernisation of Godavari Delta, Krishna Delta, Nagarjuna Sagar, Nizam Sagar, K.C.Canal, and Penna Delta projects with the Minister for Irrigation P.Sudershan Reddy and other senior irrigation officials at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that shortage of working period, poor response to tenders and construction of major structures within a less working time is resulting in the delay in the execution of works.  The officials informed the Chief Minster that permission should be accorded to take up innovations in structural designs so as to expedite the construction of major structures.

The Chief Minister suggested that standardized design procedure should be followed.  He also said that while taking up modernisation works in Godavari and Krishna delta systems, priority should be given to works useful to farmers.

He wanted that the farmers should be informed well before the beginning of the crop season about the canal closure date and the date should not be extended under any circumstances so that modernisation works can be completed before the beginning of the next cropping season.
