Govt, oppn to blame for stalemate in House: LSP chief

Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayana on Friday stated that people’s welfare and their problems were being neglected in the House as both the Ruling and Opposition parties resorted to charges and counter charges on corruption allegations.

Talking to media persons at Assembly Media Point, the Lok Satta chief demanded that the government make efforts towards addressing the problems of people on top priority in the House.

Finding fault with both the government and the opposition for turmoil in the Assembly which has seen virtually no business due to the demand for a Joint Legislature Committee probe into the allotment of land to business associations of former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy, he blamed the government for insisting on a discussion and its adamant refusal for a probe on such major issue. He asked on what basis the government called for discussion on land allotments.

Dr Narayan demanded that the government order a Joint Legislative Committee probe into entire land allotments in Special Economic Zones as irregularities had taken place in the name of establishing industries. “The government should be held responsible as the lands were acquired from farmers and the poor in the name of industrialization,” he stated.

The former bureaucrat alleged that rampant corruption and nepotism were playing key role in politics.

Reacting to a question, he said, “I am responsible to the people and not to the government.”

Responding to questions on his views on the eighth chapter of Justice Srikrishna Committee Report, Dr Narayan said, “I will react after going through the copy of High Court directions and the eighth chapter.”
