CPM calls for status quo on T issue

Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretary B V Raghavulu on Thursday demanded that status quo must be maintained on Telangana issue and it should be the responsibility of the Centre to come out with a solution.

The veteran Communist leader said, "We want status quo to be maintained. The CPM is of the view that the Centre must come out with a solution on the issue. Mere discussions are of no use, hopefully the Centre will have a clear view by the next meeting.”

Mr Raghavulu said that Union Home Minister P Chidambaram make his stand clear on Telangana statehood issue immediately.

Talking to media persons after the outcome of all-party meeting on Justice Srikrishna Commission report, the Left party leader demanded the Centre to make its stand clear on the bifurcation of state issue. If the Centre resorts to delay in the announcement of its stand on state formation, it would provoke the Telangana people and create law and order situation.

Mr Raghavulu hailed the Union Minister’s call to all parties to observe restraint over the recommendations of SKC report and help the government in maintenance of law and order.

He appealed to Chidambaram to elicit party views within 15 days from the state and convene all-party meeting as early as possible to chalk out future course of action.

He asked Chidambaram to withdraw Central paramilitary forces from the state immediately as the state was peaceful.

Meanwhile, Communist party of India state secretary K Narayana founded fault in the report for not mentioning Telangana clearly in the recommendations.
