The all important Tamil Nadu assembly elections completed yesterday and what surprised all is the record polling. Tamil Nadu since Independence recorded more than 84.69% polling and this came as a surprise not only to all the political parties but also to the analysts.
The previous turnout was 78.29% in 2011. When the record turnout happened in 2011, the incumbent DMK lost the elections badly with AIADMK sweeping the polls by winning more than 150 seats all alone in the 234 seats . AIADMK alliance won more than 203 seats.
Now, with the record turnout, many expect it is a worrying signal for the ruling DMK headed by Stalin. DMK is fighting the elections in alliance with Congress while AIADMK in alliance with BJP. Thalapathy Vijay is testing his luck with his party TVK. Pre poll analysis mostly showed the analysts writing off Vijay's TVK saying that though he may split the anti incumbency votes, he may not win the elections.
But now with the record turnout, many feel that Vijay's TVK may be creating a silent tsunami in Tamil Nadu. Vijay enjoys huge fan following among masses and youth and his party asked the youth and masses to turnout in large numbers and vote for TVK.
The pre poll surveys came up with the following results.
Lok Poll
DMK + 181–189 | 40.1%
▪️ADMK+ 38–42 | 29%
▪️TVK 8–10 | 23.9%
▪️NTK 00 | 4.9%
▪️Others 00 | 2.1%
