Faced with criticism from all sides and a direction from the Telangana high court to boost testing for Covid-19, the state government decided to step up testing for the coronavirus in Hyderabad and surrounding districts in the next one week to 10 days.

The Telangana Government also decided to give permission to private labs and hospitals on COVID-19 tests and treatment. However, the government puts price caps for tests as well for treatment.

Telangana health minister Eatala Rajender ordered private hospitals to charge Rs 2200 for Corona test. For treatment without ventilator, Rs 7500 per day will be charged, Rs 9000 without ventilator and for general ward treatment in private hospital is Rs 4000 per day.

Telangana Government has the capability to conduct 7500 tests a day. Those who can afford can go to private hospitals for tests and treatment,” stated Eatala Rajender adding if one has tested COVID-19 positive and doesn’t have symptoms should be in self-isolation.”

Eatala further said that the cases are increasing in Hyderabad only after lifting the lockdown. He also clarified that there is no community spread in Telangana.
