State Government’s new initiative to allow NRI students to sit for Eamcet from this year has received a very poor response. Of the total four lakh applications received for this Engineering, Medical Entrance, Agriculture and Pharmacy Entrance Examination, it was a mere 100 applications from NRIs which surprised every one in the Government.

Of these 100, majority were from UAE (United Arab Emirates). Applications were almost in single digits or lowest double digits from the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

It was Government’s decision to allow NRI students for Eamcet taking into consideration the heavy financial burdens with purchasing of seats in Management Quota. Although Government issued orders regarding this initiative in December 2009 but it failed to publicize properly. At the end, Eamcet has become laughing stock among NRIs.
